When the creator of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan, first announced Bass Reeves, fans were initially confused about who he was. Some even wondered if he was a character from Yellowstone they had forgotten. However, Bass Reeves is not part of the Yellowstone universe but a real figure in American history. He was the first Black U.S. deputy marshal west of the Mississippi River and lived during the 1880s. This new series may contain some important history that we should all know.
After finishing 1883, Sheridan was told by producers over at the Paramount Network that he needed to write a second season. However, he had killed off all the main characters in the first season, leaving no room for a continuation. Instead, he decided to create “another peek into the window” with Bass Reeves. Many historians believe he was one of the inspirations for the “Lone Ranger” character. The release date for Bass Reeves hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the crew is currently filming in Texas.
